Impact Wrestling Preview is all set for our next category, and this is one that’s going to be really tough to pick.
When it comes to the Tag Team of the Year, it’s easy to look at the wins and/or title reign a team had, but like everything else, the lockdowns really skewered things and muddied the water.
Tag Team of the Year
It’s easy to pick The North (Ethan Page, Josh Alexander) for their year plus long title reign, but the lockdowns left them stranded in Canada.
This meant they didn’t have many challengers or title defenses, but it also allowed them to become creative and have some of the most hilarious segments and matches against local talent.

While it was all tongue in cheek and kept us entertained doesn’t mean it should be ignored because it wasn’t real competition.
To us, champions that give us a reason to tune in is what makes them great, and whether we’re drawn in through promos or matches it all works.
With all of that being said, it’s impossible to ignore the impact The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) and the Good Brothers (Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows) have made since their arrival.
The MCMG are simply awesome to watch as they really raise the level of energy in the ring with their high paced double teams and resiliency.
The Good Brothers are the perfect tough guy tag team that’ll tell you what they’re going to do to you and then do it.
But have they been in Impact long enough to earn serious contribution in this category?
That’s an interesting question, but we think it’s canceled out when we look at the North not really having that one team to feud against to take them to the next level.
Possible Challenges
The Motor City Machine Guns did that, as have the Good Brothers, though the latter has been more responsible for the North’s apparent destruction as of late.
There’s also a newer tag team that’s on the cusp of becoming the top team in the promotion, and that’s Ace Austin and Madman Fulton.
The knock against them, at least in Impact Wrestling Preview’s eyes, is they haven’t won a whole lot in Impact Wrestling to build any momentum.
They’re a great tag team as they’ve shown elsewhere, but we don’t think they’ve hit their stride in Impact yet, but they will.
So for us, Impact Wrestling Preview is going to stick with the record setting The North.
Like everyone else, they made the best of a rough situation and gave some awesomely hilarious moments that we couldn’t wait to see before they returned to action in the Impact Zone.
