On December 12th, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented the finals of Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) and World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the legendary Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan in front of 3,564 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was lively throughout the event, especially during the dual marquee matches.
The first marquee match showcased the WTL 2020 Finals between former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Bullet Club members Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD] against former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and WTL 2019 winners FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay).
The two teams have become competitive rivals over the past two years, trading victories against one another. While GOD has more experience together as a tag team, FinJuice has gelled quickly due to their close friendship.
GOD’s manager Jado made a difference during the match, helping put FinJuice on their back foot during key points during the match; however, the defending trophy winners were able to fight back and show why they have been on an incredible form the past year.
Yet, despite their best efforts, the cheating ways of the Bullet Club team lead to Tama Tonga gaining the fall over Juice at the 22 minutes and 15 seconds after he and Tanga used the Super Powerbomb technique.
The win for GOD gives them their first trophy victory within NJPW, as they seek out their first victory at Wrestle Kindom in the upcoming month. As it stands, GOD will challenge the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Suzuki-Gun members Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) at Wrestle Kingdom 15.
The victory for GOD gives them momentum in a reformatted NJPW Heavyweight Tag Team division, while they continue to show they are one of the top teams in the world.
