On December 2nd, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) from the Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan in front of 1,220 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was present during key parts of the night.
The headline series match of the event saw reigning two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori face Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado. Ishimori came into the match after gaining the fall over former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi on November 29th, while El Desperado defeated fellow Suzuki-Gun member Douki on the same night.
The highly competitive match got off to a quick start as Desperado wasted no time in attempting to gain the upper hand on the in-form champion. However, the match evolved into Llave v Llave chain wrestling match, before speeding up to a modern Junior Heavyweight style.
El Desperado hanging with Ishimori showed how much he has grown since his Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) excursion. He was eventually able to gain the fall over Ishimori at the 17 minutes and 18 seconds mark with his Pinche Loco technique.
The victory moved Desperado to (5-2) [10 points] while the loss dropped Ishimori to (5-2) [10 points]. The victory put Desperado at the top of the BOSJ 27 table, while also giving him a tiebreaker over Ishimori.
Ishimori would go on to face “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato on December 5th, while El Desperado would face CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles on the same night.
The victory for El Desperado meant that he would advance to the BOSJ 27 Finals if he won the remaining matches during his campaign.
