So, I recently found out that the Beverly Brothers were supposed to spoiled brats. I thought they were just two rough ass blondes who wore capes.
As you know, when we visit the Wrestling Salvage Yard, we break down their career in a brief fashion and see if the gimmick could’ve worked or if there was something else that could’ve been done with the wrestlers.
Let’s look at the Beverly Bros.
The Beverly Brothers
First off, I dig the grape soda drip of the Beverly Brothers. Very nice. Second, they’re spoiled rich kids from Shaker Heights, Ohio. Seriously?
This might be corny—the gimmick was corny already—but they could’ve been billed from Beverly Hills. Would it have been a little racy? Probably.
Again, spoiled kids gimmick, Beverly Brothers, it’s 1991, the Menendez brothers had been arrested the year prior. This could’ve been a controversial soup and WWE was far away from the Attitude Era.
However, what else did WWE have planned for these guys? Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom were a good, tough tag team that would mix it up with bruisers no problem.
This wasn’t the gimmick for them but they did it and came in with a super destructive finisher the Shaker Heights Spike.
The team would remain in WWE until 1993 when Bloom left the company while Enos became a singles enhancement talent.
That was basically the end of the team. It’s a shame because they never really got their shot during the 90s and were a rock-solid team upon first tagging together.
Salvaging The Shaker Heights Boys
I loved the finisher, the music, and the ring gear. Also, they were solid in TV matches—especially if you just needed time filled. I just didn’t care for the gimmick.
Like, this was a green-lit gimmick at this time in WWE? The Mounties had more going on gimmick-wise. Hell, the Natural Disasters were just two super heavyweights who did nothing but steamroll.
I just don’t know where this was going outside of just being a midcard maximum team. If that was the case they could’ve just arrived as regular-ass Destruction Crew. As we say down here “That’s too much like right.”
