Back in the summer, we were treated to a one on one encounter between Rhea Ripley & Dakota Kai. Despite a messy run-in finish from Mercedes Martinez, it was an excellent match-up that showed why these two are the future of the WWE Women’s division. Now, we get another edition of this match-up on tonight’s NXT. Even better, Raquel Gonzalez is banned from ringside so this one might finish nice and clean!
Dakota Kai Tries To Destroy The Arm
Ripley started off by asking where Kai’s little helper is, before taking Kai into the corner and being shoved away by the face. Kai would use her speed early and get a kick to the leg of Ripley before being picked up in a gutwrench hold and thrown to the side. Ripley threw Kai to the outside, followed her and tried for the Electric Chair drop on the apron.
Kai landed on her back instead of face, got back up to kick Ripley in the face, and stomped her arm on the apron and threw her into the corner post. She’s clearly learning from her roommate Shayna Baszler. A picture-in-picture break showed Kai keeping the pressure on that arm, hopefully taking the power game away.
She applied a cross-armbreaker, but Ripley powered her up into a powerbomb. Ripley trapped the head with a cravate, and nailed some knee strikes. She dodged the kicks of Kai, and threw her to the mat with the one good arm.
Rhea Ripley Can’t Be Denied
Kai came back with the Scorpion Kick, and sent Ripley into the corner. She missed the running boot and was dropped with another slam, but got Ripley into the far corner and nailed the kick. This didn’t get her the effect she wanted, and ended up Prism Lock.
Raquel Gonzalez came out to the stage, unable to go further or risk Kai getting DQ’d. Ripley stared a hole through Gonzalez with the hold on, and tried to draw her to the ring to say her friend. Kai was able to get the ropes to break the hold, but quickly found herself up top for a superplex.
She fought Ripley off and was able to hit the Kairopractor, only getting a two count! Some quick kicks to the head would be countered into a Riptide attempt, and Kai almost countered into a guilltoine choke. Ripley was able to prevent the hold, threw Kai to the mat and nailed the Riptide for the win.
Afterwards she called Gonzalez to the ring, and referees tried to stop this from turning into a full on brawl. It’s clear they’ll meet at New Years Evil in two weeks, but what stipulation will this match have? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
