It’s been four years now since WWE brought back WarGames for NXT, and every year we’ve seen Undisputed Era take the spotlight. WarGames has become their signature match as a faction, and this year they’ll use the double cage to punish Pat McAfee.
McAfee wanted to break Undisputed Era down with hired goons like Ridge Holland, Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch & Pete Dunne. However, Holland suffered an injury, and now McAfee steps into WarGames in his second wrestling match ever. His team has the advantage, but he’s entering Undisputed Era’s turf.
This year, they don’t just have their skill in WarGames, their years of teamwork, but this year they have babyface fire and 100% fan support backing them up.
O’Reilly & Dunne Give Us A Clinic
Kyle O’Reilly would be the man to start the match, wanting to prove himself further this year. Pete Dunne would start for Team McAfee, being the only man on his team with experience in this match. Dunne & O’Reilly met in the ladder match to decide the advantage, so O’Reilly is all alone for the next eight minutes.
They’d feel each other out with some strikes and grappling, with them easily matched in this regard. Dunne slammed O’Reilly down but almost got trapped in a triangle choke. You don’t usually see technical wrestling clinics in WarGames, but that’s how this one is going. Dunne used the rings to his advantage, before O’Reilly could try for a German Suplex, but Dunne landed on his feet and kicked O’Reilly in the head.
Some joint manipulation to the arm would follow, with Dunne trying to slow O’Reilly down before his team mates turned this into a brawl. Instead, O’Reilly almost choked Dunne out, and would apply a heel hook as the next member of Team McAfee hit the ring.
ReDragon Soars Again
Oney Lorcan hit the ring and O’Reilly let go of the heel hook and went blow for blow with Lorcan. Dunne would hit the lariat, and soon Lorcan hit the Half & Half Suplex, and Dunne kicked the arm. It was their playground for two minutes, Dunne applying the surfboard stretch while Lorcan hit chops to a defenseless O’Reilly before going for the DDT. O’Reilly slipped out and hit two rope assisted dragon screws before hitting the knee drop on Lorcan. Dunne took him back down with a missile dropkick to the knee.
Lorcan & Dunne applied a double submission to O’Reilly as the clock ticked down to let the next member of Undisputed Era into the ring. Bobby Fish came to help his longtime tag team partner, and would throw some kicks and strikes, nailed the exploder suplex on Dunne and ReDragon found their stride. Dunne hopped onto O’Reilly for a double wrist lock, but Fish saved his partner and they’d beat Dunne down.
While O’Reilly applied a submission on Lorcan, Dunne bent the hand of Fish in the cage, but Danny Burch hit the ring. He’d bring some weapons in, before just dropping O’Reilly with an uppercut before revealing his weapon was a set of cricket bats. These are heavier than baseball bats, and deadly weapons, but Burch mouthed off and was trapped in a heel hook. He’d tap out but it doesn’t matter, there’s still three men missing.
Undisputed Era Have Reserved Tables
Dunne saved Burch, and finally Burch wacked O’Reilly with the bat. Their three on one advantage was coming to an end, Fish & O’Reilly weren’t doing so hot. Strong would be attacked as soon as he entered the ring, but he came back with his hard strikes and caught Dunne with a backbreaker. He had to be a one man wrecking crew, until someone could recover. Thankfully, Roddy is ready for a fight like this, and held his own for a while before being sent into the steel.
Fish got back to his feet, followed by O’Reilly but they’d be beat right back down. Dunne stomped the arm of Fish on the steel, and Pat McAfee could stride into the ring without issue. First though, he grabbed some tables, painted for each member of Undisputed Era, as well as some steel chairs. Fish’s table was set up between the two rings, and McAfee finally entered the War Game cage.
McAfee would just act as a general for the moment, sitting in the corner and watching as Strong was set onto his table. He wouldn’t stay on long, before being hit with a moonsault by McAfee, and the table breaking. However, here comes Adam Cole. The match officially begins.
The Match Beyond
Cole wasn’t coming in unarmed, cooling them off with a fire extinguisher, before grabbing a steel chair. He’d clean house, and only McAfee was left standing. Cole would be stopped by Dunne before he got his hands on McAfee, and have his head stomped into the mat. Dunne attempted the Bitter End but was hit by a DDT. McAfee grabbed Cole from behind and let Dunne go after him, but O’Reilly got the chairshot he wanted on Dunne.
O’Reilly would trash talk to McAfee and let Cole sneak behind with a steel chair. This one broke into a brawl, all eight men going at it. McAfee was beat down by O’Reilly, Dunne being locked in a sleeper hold by Fish, but Lorcan hit the blockbuster to save. Brit Am Brawlers hit their finisher on O’Reilly, but Fish saved him.
Cole would hit some pump kicks, before McAfee hit the chop block. He’d hit his best WOO! and apply the Figure Four Leg Lock. The rest of Undisputed Era would be held off, but Cole reversed the pressure of the hold, and Undisputed Era grabbed everyone else with submissions, but Dunne could save the day again.
Pat McAfee Gets His Just Desserts
A brief lull showed how exhausted everyone was, but Lorcan & Burch would set up the table marked for Adam Cole by a corner. Strong & Fish would get some revenge for the attack from weeks back, while Cole was trapped in an armbar by Dunne. Cole came back with the knee drop brainbuster, but only got a two count. The O’Reilly table was set, but Cole wanted Dunne to go through it with a superplex. Instead, he’d be thrown into Burch on Cole’s table. It didn’t break until Strong leaped onto the dog pile.
Cole would be caught by McAfee on the top rope, but McAfee was shoved through O’Reillys intended table, falling on his own sword as he brought these tables in. Undisputed Era had control, and was ready to finish this. They’d trap their opponents behind the ropes and slam them into the cage with strikes until they fell.
McAfee was all alone now, and it was four on one. He tried to escape the cage, but was pulled down and surrounded. Undisputed Era would let out months of anger on McAfee, and throw him all around the cage. Before he was hit with the punt, Dunne, Lorcan & Burch made the save.
O’Reilly was taken out with a Doomsday Device. Dunne was taken out with a top rope neckbreaker. McAfee with a superplex. It was a mess of bodies, and everyone was slow to their feet. The end was near, and everyone would go down swinging. A huge slugfest broke out as McAfee dove off the cage with a Swanton Bomb, taking out friend and foe alike.
And That’s Undisputed
The first two men back up were the men who started this match, O’Reilly & Dunne. 45 minutes deep and still fighting, showing they were the perfect starters. O’Reilly dropped Dunne with a strike, but had his fingers snapped. Dunne nailed Bitter End, but O’Reilly somehow kicked out! He’d be dragged to the middle of the ring, and Dunne wanted the powerbomb through the table, but instead was hit with a brainbuster on steel.
O’Reilly set a chair up, set Dunne’s head on it and look for the diving knee strike. McAfee saved him with a chair shot to the leg of O’Reilly, before swinging for Cole and being beat down. Cole wanted the headshot, but got a low blow from McAfee, who set the punt up. McAfee missed and took a Pump Kick to the face. Panama Sunrise was to be next, but Burch saved him before being put through Fish’s table by Fish.
Cole would take a superkick from McAfee, but dodge a shoddy attempt at Panama Sunrise and hit McAfee with the original, and he somehow kicked out! The knee was exposed, and Lorcan took the Last Shot for McAfee. Dunne quickly hit Bitter End onto a steel chair, taking Dunne out. Strong & Fish took Dunne out, put the chair over the head of Lorcan, and O’Reilly hit the knee for the win.
