“Vince McMahon is expecting me to dismantle this industry, imma f*cking do it” was a notable quote from the recent WWE 24 special all about Keith Lee, which seems to indicate big hope and plans in the Texas native. However, his treatment in WWE tells a very different story. Following its premiere, Lee was relegated to WWE Main Event for a match with Angel Garza, before recent news came out about an outburst from Vince McMahon himself.
Behind the scenes, Vince McMahon himself threw a fit over the ‘work rate’ of certain members on the WWE Main Roster. These included AJ Styles bodyguard Omos, Retribution member Mace (aka Dio Maddin), Dabbo Kato, and two shocking names in Otis & Keith Lee.
Keith Lee & Others Taking Two Extra Classes A Week In The WWE Performance Center
After this outburst from the boss, he quickly took action. Going forward, this group and likely others will report to the WWE Performance Center for some tune up classes taught by Drew Gulak and Adam Pearce. This is honestly not a horrible idea in theory, you are never too experienced to work on your skills, and without house shows to get some extra work in, it could help names remain in steady shape for shows.
WWE alumni Shane Helms put it best on Twitter. “Players that make it to the NBA, NFL, NHL etc. don’t stop practicing and drilling just because they made it to the “top.” Being signed to a major promotion doesn’t mean stop trying to perfect your craft. That’s when you work even harder to perfect your craft!”
The issue from fans comes in someone like Keith Lee being included in this group. Anyone familiar with his pre-WWE or NXT work will know that when it comes to big men, his work rate is off the damn charts, being one of the most impressive men in the game today. He would slow his style down to fit the main roster style better, and now is seemingly getting punished for this.
This Could Help Some Names In WWE
Others like Maddin, Omos and Kato make sense. Otis is doing alright in the ring, but is far from a master technician. Him being in a storyline with Chad Gable indicates that these talents will not be taken off TV during this training.
This might become an ordinary part of WWE while they remain in Florida. We might not see top names like AJ Styles, Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre and the like do this, and AJ Styles might run for the hills if told to report back to the PC, but others could use this help. The WWE roster is mostly NXT alumni at this point, and they could always use a bit more time in the oven before coming up. People like Nia Jax, Apollo Crews, Lacey Evans and more stand out as good examples of premature call ups.
