YouTuber Jake Paul has announced that he will be fighting Ben Askren when he returns to the ring. After making the decision, he stated that he wanted to face the former UFC star, as he wants to silence those that have doubted his ability in the ring.
The fight is scheduled to take place on the 17th April. Another win for Paul may finally get the attention of Conor McGregor, who Paul has been calling out for the best part of a year.
Boxing News: Askren Has Excellent MMA Record
There is no denying that this will be Paul’s most competitive fight to date, as he will be coming up an MMA fighter that has been retired for just 12 months. Askren has achieved success throughout his career, and even represented in the United States in the 2008 Olympics. After the Olympic Games, he moved into a career of MMA, and made his debut in February 2009 against Josh Flowers. He won all three of his first fights inside the distance, and enjoyed an excellent career with Bellator and ONE Championship before making his debut in the UFC.
Askren only appeared in UFC on three occasions, but with a proven reputation, His victory at UFC 235 against Robbie Lawler by submission improved his record to 19-0. However, his career in MMA came to an end after two defeats on the bounce. The first of those was suffered against Jorge Masvidal, as he was knocked out inside the opening ten seconds. The defeat was quickly followed up with another loss against Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night, as he was beaten by submission in the third round.
Boxing News: Paul’s Return To The Ring
The fight against Askren will be the third fight that Paul has had, but will be the biggest test of his fighting career. For the first time in his short career, he will be coming up against a genuine fighter that will be able to pose a more realistic marker as to how good the YouTuber really is.
Paul has fought on two previous occasions. The first of those fights came against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in Miami, as he won by TKO on the 30th January last year. He returned to fight Nate Robinson on the undercard of the illustrious Mike Tyson fight against Roy Jones. The result was the same, as Paul won by KO in the second round at the Staples Center.
