After Karrion Kross mauled Ashante Adonis and Desmond Troy on this past week’s episode of NXT, they were forced to give up their spot in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. We didn’t know who would replace them, until after the Fight Pit match with Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher. They beat respect into each other and ended their feud. After the show, they formed a new tag team to take this tournament by storm.
Now, they start their tournament on 205 Live, facing Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari. Nese & Daivari are always mad about outsiders coming to their brand, so they won’t be happy that a man who doesn’t even make the weight limit is on their show. Ciampa however, is a cruiserweight OG, having been in the Cruiserweight Classic alongside Nese & Daivari. This is the final first round match of the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Instant Chemistry After Some Hard Hitting Wars
Thatcher got started with Daivari, and instantly went to work on grinding him down with submissions. He showed no damage from The Fight Pit yet, and was taking liberties with Daivari as he applied a tight Bow & Arrow hold, leaning it down into a pinfall for a two count. Daivari finally slipped free for long enough to tag in Nese, who rolled up Thatcher for a two count.
Thatcher quickly grounded Nese with a single leg takedown, and Ciampa asked for a tag. Ciampa had to wait for Thatcher to think about it, before he accepted the tag. Nese grabbed an arm, but Ciampa is a former NXT World Champion and was able to out-wrestle Nese with ease. Ciampa showed the damage of The Fight Pit after being shoved off the ropes, and Nese tried to attack the knee. This failed, and he found himself in a front headlock.
Daivari tagged in, and Nese tripped him up on the apron, allowing Daivari to slam the knees of Thatcher off the ring post. Back in the ring, Daivari kept the attack on the knee, and Thatcher was looking for a tag, but Ciampa instead got locked in the figure four leg lock. Nese tagged in, and stomped a defenseless Ciampa who was still in the figure four.
Tommaso Ciampa Makes The Comeback Win
Thatcher would get the tag after Ciampa got free, and he would throw both Nese & Daivari with big belly to belly suplexes before hitting the european uppercuts. Daivari got locked in a single leg crab, but Nese would hit the hotshot into moonsault combo, tag in Daivari who hit the Persian Splash. Ciampa was able to break the pinfall attempt, and tagged in for some revenge on Nese & Daivari.
A dropkick to the hurt knee stunned Ciampa, but alongside Thatcher they took the 205 Live originals out of the sky. Ciampa nailed Willows Bell, and this one was over just like that. He’d stare a hole through Thatcher, but they seemed to work well in this match. They face Adam Cole & Roderick Strong next.
