The Lucha House Party is back in NXT, with many fans hoping they will stick around. Gran Metalik got a chance to unseat Santos Escobar at New Year’s Evil in a great match, and now alongside Metalik hopes to win the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
It won’t be easy for them however, as they’ll need to defeat two dangerous grapplers in Imperium members, Fabian Aichner & Marcel Bartel. Aichner & Bartel are former NXT Tag Team Champions, and are truly deadly in the ring. It’s Lucha Libre vs. UK Style grappling, which is going to win?
Lucha House Party Aren’t 100% Tonight, But Imperium Is
Dorado would start with Bartel, and end up in the corner within seconds before being flung to the mat. A quick suplex would be followed by a chinlock, but Dorado got a high snapmare to try to escape.
After being mauled by Hurt Business on Monday Night RAW, it’s clear they’re not 100%, but Dorado was able to free himself and let Metalik pick up the pace. Dorado dropped Bartel with a suplex, had Metalik stand on his shoulders and he walked over to let Metalik hit the splash.
Aichner tagged in, and Metalik wasn’t able to outspeed him, being caught in a backbreaker when he tried for a crossbody. He’d get behind Aichner and hit the reverse slingblade, before tagging in Dorado.
Aichner was sent to the outside, and caught when he was targeted by Dorado, slammed into the apron and driven to the mats with a scoop slam. Metalik tried to save Dorado, but was hung up in the tree of woe and kicked by both halves of Imperium as we went to a commercial break.
The Mat Is Sacred, But What About The Ropes?
Coming back from the break, Dorado was fighting up off the mat after being controlled throughout, but nailed a handspring stunner on Aichner. Bartel was able to prevent the tag, but Dorado was persistent. He’d fight in the corner, before taking a kick to the head and nearly getting superplexed.
A huge swinging DDT would drop Bartel, and Metalik tagged in alongside Aichner. Metalik dove in, and showed why he’s the king of the ropes with a tight rope walk into the hurricanrana before a double jump moonsault for a near fall. Aichner tagged in Bartel, who was able to counter a springboard armdrag, and set up a diving DDT from Aichner.
They wanted a double team suplex, but Metalik tagged out to Dorado, who got an assisted Code Red for a near fall. Dorado went to the wrong corner and was shoved into a suplex by Bartel, but kicked out at two.
The spinebuster into the PK would set up a European Bomb, but Dorado countered into a facebuster. Metalik was able to even the odds and take Aichner out with a springboard moonsault, as Dorado hit a superkick and a perfect shooting star press for the win!
Having to sell the injuries of a rough Monday Night slowed down Lucha House Party in this match, setting up a late match comeback. It was an excellent styles clash, but had some sloppy moments throughout. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4 )
After the match, Alexander Wolfe would appear in NXT, after spending months in the UK, making Imperium into a trio. Lucha House Party will now face Legado Del Fantasma in the next round of this tournament. Last time they met, LHP got the surprise win, but now Legado has a chance to prepare.
