As of late, Cesaro has been on an absolute roll in WWE. He most recently had a strong run in the Royal Rumble, before taping out former world champion Daniel Bryan on Smackdown Live in under five minutes. Cesaro has always been a fan favorite, due to his status as a freak athlete who can wrestle a perfect match with just about anyone.
Now comes the news that Cesaro has signed another new deal with WWE, sticking around for a few more years. With this news and how strong he’s looked recently, could we expect big things from The Swiss Cyborg in 2021?
Cesaro Was Meant For The Big Gauntlet Run Of Shinsuke Nakamura
While Cesaro has hit his stride all the same, it was meant to come a bit earlier. A few weeks back, there was a big gauntlet match to name the next challenger for WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. This match was won by Adam Pearce, but Shinsuke Nakamura was the star of the show, running through most of the field himself before being shut down by Roman Reigns & Jey Uso.
This was an idea pitched by Daniel Bryan, and while it fit well with Nakamura, the intended star was Cesaro. This almost works out better, as Nakamura got heavily elevated, and it would have been a bit harder for Nakamura to get the current organic rise of Cesaro. We’ve ended up with two potential upper-card contenders instead of just the one, a positive twist.
Potential Challenger For Roman Reigns?
While it seems like Edge vs. Roman Reigns is a lock for Wrestlemania later this year, we still have two PPV’s along the way. Reigns will need a bit of a filler feud, and Cesaro could be perfect for this. There’s Elimination Chamber, where Reigns will likely need to defend his championship, as well as Fastlane. Fastlane normally is not a big deal, but it’s the first live WWE PPV for the WWE Networks move to Peacock, meaning they need a strong showing.
Cesaro is essentially a lock for Elimination Chamber alongside names like Nakamura, Daniel Bryan, Jey Uso, & Kevin Owens. However, he could be perfect for Reigns at Fastlane, especially as Edge is perfectly fine facing Cesaro at Wrestlemania, having noted him as a dream opponent.
