Last night at Impact Wrestling: No Surrender, we saw the next step in the relationship between New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) & Impact Wrestling. Former World Tag League & IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions David Finlay & Juice Robinson are going to be showing up very soon in Impact Wrestling. This comes after Chris Bey would be in the Super J-Cup and KENTA showing up on AEW Dynamite, and shows that NJPW is ready to send talent overseas for projects not related to NJPW Of America. However, the biggest is yet to come. Kazuchika Okada intends to head overseas as soon as he can. We just don’t know where to expect him yet.
This was confirmed by Dave Meltzer on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. “They are all in business, it’s all open now. Okada is coming… I don’t know where or when, but HE IS officially coming… and others are coming too.”
Kazuchika Okada Has Unfinished Business With Impact Wrestling
It might come as a shock to some fans that Okada has spent some time in Impact Wrestling before. This was before he was The Rainmaker, as he did his excursion from NJPW in Impact Wrestling. It went so poorly that it was enough to end the partnership between the two companies until current times.
He was cast as Okoto, the sidekick of Samoa Joe, in a Green Hornet based gimmick. You couldn’t watch back and see a future top star of professional wrestling, despite that being the plan for Okada. However, him showing back up a decade later with his CHAOS mates to wreak havoc would be wonderfully poetic.
Here comes this kid they turned into a joke long ago, coming back with badasses like Tomohiro Ishii & Hirooki Goto backing him up as he takes out their biggest stars. Okada plays an excellent heel, but it would be hard to get something like this negative reaction, because he’s Okada.
His Greatest Rival Is In AEW
However, while Okada running through Impact as a revenge for his past would be great? That’s not what people truly want. They want the next chapter of one of professional wrestling’s best rivalries, that being Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada. Their matches changed how some look at professional wrestling, and reset the scale for what a perfect match was.
Okada has been spinning his wheels since losing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom in 2020, but getting to lock eyes with Omega would get him back on track. It’s a moment that would need a big crowd to make it truly special, but Omega having just defended the AEW World Championship, and that iconic coin drop sound playing? That’s a moment that would take the roof off any arena full of knowing fans.
It was always clear that more NJPW stars were coi Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
