We’re well on the road to Wrestlemania now, having past Royal Rumble and tonight entering the Elimination Chamber. There’s not much time left before Wrestlemania, with only Fastlane left afterwards. Whoever walks away tonight with the WWE or Universal Championships will likely make it to Wrestlemania. However, Drew McIntyre & Roman Reigns still have different paths in store for them.
Drew McIntyre Is A True Fighting Champion
It’s become tradition to defend the world titles in Elimination Chamber on the way to Wrestlemania, and that’s a challenge that someone like Drew McIntyre has been waiting for. He will not have an easy time however, as he will have to outlast five former WWE Champions. Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston & AJ Styles will all enter the chamber to look to become current WWE Champions.
Sheamus won a gauntlet match to get to enter the match last, giving him a certain advantage tonight. The Miz was planned to be in this match, but lost his spot to Kofi Kingston, but is still lurking with his Money In The Bank contract. McIntyre has never faced odds quite like this, but I’m sure he’s got claymores ready for everyone.
Roman Reigns Found A Loophole
Meanwhile, Roman Reigns is taking an easier route. He will defend, but not in the elimination chamber match. Instead, he faces the winner of an elimination chamber match later in the night. Jey Uso, Cesaro, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens & King Corbin will battle it out, and later in the night get a chance to become Universal Champion. This heavily stacks the odds in the favor of Roman Reigns, who will get to face a weakened opponent.
It doesn’t make victory certain, as we know how resilient all of these potential challengers are. Being able to become WWE Universal Champion this close to Wrestlemania is huge, and someone like Cesaro won’t take this chance lightly, finally fingertips away from world champion glory again.
Will Asuka Defend The RAW Women’s Championship?
Tonight, Asuka was set to defend her RAW Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans. This match has been cancelled, as Evans will soon have another child in her life, and therefore can’t wrestle. If Asuka doesn’t defend tonight, it’ll be the fourth PPV event in a row without a defense, and another death blow to her lackluster reign as RAW Women’s Champion.
Her last PPV defense was at Clash of Champions in 2020 against Zelina Vega. There are plenty of talented ladies waiting for the spotlight, from Peyton Royce to Rhea Ripley, and we will hopefully see Asuka open up a challenge tonight to prove herself as champion.
Sasha Banks Teams With Potential Challenger
Meanwhile on the Smackdown side of things, Sasha Banks is in action but not defending as she challenges for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Bianca Belair. Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax are the current champions, and they have a date coming up with Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez. They face stiff competition tonight, but Belair & Banks have some tensions. Belair won the 2021 Royal Rumble, and a clash with Banks is all but certain for Wrestlemania.
Odds Are Stacked Against Bobby Lashley
We have never seen a better Bobby Lashley in WWE than right now, as he has locked down the United States Championship for 175 days. Nearly all comers have been taken out with the Hurt Lock, but tonight is his big test. He’s taken out Riddle, and went to war with Keith Lee, but tonight he must face both men at once in a triple threat match. If anyone loses their title tonight, it’s likely Lashley, as Keith Lee is the one man he has been unable to stop, and Lashley doesn’t even need to be involved in the finish to lose his title.
