The celebrity boxing event between Ben Askren and Jake Paul looks set to be one of the biggest of its type, and that has been highlighted by a pretty decent looking undercard. The fight between the YouTuber and former UFC star will take place on the 17th April, and will be taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
It is expected that the eyes of the boxing world will be on the event, with Dana White also getting in on the action this week, by revealing that he would be willing to part with $1 million should Paul beat the star that was previously fighting in his company.
Boxing News: Undercard Bouts Announced
One of the biggest fights that were announced for the undercard will see Regis Prograis take on Ivan Redkach in the light welterweight division. It is a pretty big fight for both stars, as Prograis is looking to get back on the comeback trail, as he looks to earn another shot at the world title that he lost to Josh Taylor.
The American was beaten by Taylor by majority decision back in October 2019, which ended his perfect 24-0 record, and cost him the WBA (Super), IBF and The Ring titles. Redkach is also looking to rediscover his form, as his last fight ended with defeat against Danny Garcia in January 2020. That defeat ended a run of three straight wins, which means that his record now stands at 23-5-1.
Boxing News: Other Announced Bouts
There will also be a cross-sport encounter on the undercard, as former UFC star Frank Mir steps in the ring for the first time to take on multi-light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver. The 52-year-old boxer hasn’t fought since August 2015, as he ended his career with a draw against Steve Cunningham. Mir’s last appearance in the octagon came in October 2019, as he beat Roy Nelson.
There will also be a clash between former fitness business owner Joe Fournier and music star Reykon on the undercard. Fournier has won all eight of his professional fights to date, and has won eight times by TKO/KO. However, this will be his first fight in six years. Rekyon hasn’t previously had a professional boxing bout, and this will be a daunting challenge for the South American.
