This year is slowly turning into the year of huge unification fights in the world of boxing, as it was revealed earlier in the week that there will be a massive super-lightweight unification fight taking place in May.
The news was announced by Josh Taylor, as he revealed that he was excited to get in the ring with Jose Carlos Ramirez, but did admit that it was a tough fight to get over the line. At present there has been no venue revealed for the date, but the announcement of where the fight will be taking place is expected very soon.
Boxing News: Taylor To Defend WBA (Super), IBF and The Ring Titles
It promises to be a massive night of boxing action, as Taylor will put his WBA (Super), IBF and The Ring titles on the line in the contest. Taylor has an exceptional record since turning pro, as he has won all 17 fights. He has only been taken the distance on four occasions; most recently against Regis Prograis in October 2019. His knockout record is staggering, as he has won 13 times by that method. He won by KO in his last fight, which was against Apinun Khongsong in September last year.
That was the first defence of the titles that he will be defending once again against Ramirez in a couple of months time. The Brit won the IBF title back in May 2019, as he beat Ivan Baranchyk by unanimous decision in Glasgow. He added the WBA (Super) title as well as The Ring belt to his collection with the majority decision victory against Prograis in October 2019.
Boxing News: Ramirez Also Unbeaten
One of the most interesting factors surrounding this fight is that both superstars will be coming into the fight with perfect records. Ramirez has won all 26 fights throughout his professional career. Nine of those wins have come by decision, while the remaining 17 have come by knockout.
The American has been the WBC lightweight champion since March 2018, as he beat Amir Imam by unanimous decision. He added the WBO title to his collection in July 2019, as he stopped Maurice Hooker in the sixth round of this contest in Texas. He has successfully defended both titles on one occasion before the Taylor bout, as he beat Viktor Postol by majority decision in August last year.
