Every UFC weekend brings with it its fair share of excitement, but there haven’t been many bigger weekends of action in recent months than the one taking place this weekend at the UFC Apex.
There will be three title fights on the main card at UFC 259, which are sure to captivate audiences from around the world throughout the evening. But, which champions could come through their defences with their reigns still in tact?
UFC News: Blachowicz vs Adesanya
The main event of the stacked night of action will be the contest between reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. There could be history made in the main event, as Adesanya will be looking to become the first UFC star to ever hold the light heavyweight and middleweight titles at the same time. Dual title wins have only been achieved by three previous male fighters, which includes Daniel Cormier, Conor McGregor and Henry Cejudo.
His form coming into the big fight couldn’t be any more dominant, as he has won all 20 fights throughout his career, which includes his most recent win against Paulo Costa. Meanwhile, this will be Blachowicz’s first defence of the title that he won at UFC 253 against Dominick Reyes in September last year.
UFC News: Nunes And Yan Looking To Defend Titles
The other two title matches will see the women’s featherweight and men’s bantamweight championships on the line. Amanda Nunes will co-main event the card, as she looks to successfully defend her championship against Megan Anderson. Nunes has won 20 of her 24 professional fights throughout her career, and is on an eleven-fight winning run. This will be her fourth defence of the title, as she last beat Felicia Spencer for the title back in June. Meanwhile, Anderson will be looking for a third straight victory, after most recently beating Norma Dumont Viana.
Meanwhile, Petr Yan will be defending his bantamweight title in the fight directly before Nunes’ octagon appearance. The 28-year-old has been in excellent form since arriving in the UFC, as he has won all seven fights that he has been involved in. He won the title back in July last year with a TKO finish in the fifth round against Jose Aldo. Aljamain Sterling is the number one rated fighter in the division, and became the rightful challenger for the title after beating Cory Sandhagen by submission in June last year.
