Santos Escobar runs the NXT Cruiserweight division like no one ever has before, and to send a message to Jordan Devlin ahead of NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver? He’s holding an open challenge. Escobar is the god of lucha libre, the very foundation of this entire division. He’s self proclaimed to be the best cruiserweight in the history of NXT, but Tyler Breeze has an objection to this and accepted the open challenge.
Tyler Breeze Is An NXT Original
As the bell rang, Breeze took a kick to the gut and was quickly cornered with some stomps. Escobar called him a joke before hitting a dropkick, and then mocked Prince Pretty some more. Breeze came back with a dropkick and some stomps of his own, before hitting a second dropkick which sent Escobar into the corner.
Escobar was sent to the outside, but Breeze was unable to maintain the high ground advantage. Breeze was taken down and hit with another big dropkick, but a gamiguri after going to the apron allowed Escobar to wrap the leg around the turnbuckle, before hitting both Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde with superkicks. Escobar went for the Arrow From The Depths of Heel, but Breeze blocked with a kick as we went to a commercial break.
Santos Escobar Is Ready For Anything
Coming back from the break, Escobar was back in control and hit a big open hand chop in the corner. Running double knees dropped Breeze, and Escobar got the near fall. He’d pick Breeze up and nail a gutbuster, before setting up the Mexican Surfboard. Breeze was bent back into a chinlock, but this hold is impossible to maintain for long, but the damage was done.
Back in the corner, Escobar nailed a chop but Breeze fought back with a hurricanrana followed up by mounted punches. Breeze was going after the left knee of Escobar, before hitting a spinebuster and applying a Canadian classic in the Sharpshooter. Escobar had to crawl to the ropes to break the hold. He’d block the Unprettier, and hit the Phantom Driver for the win.
