Finally picking up where he left off as the Belt Collector of professional wrestling, Kenny Omega ran through Rich Swann to claim the Impact Wrestling World Championship last night at Impact Wrestling: Rebellion. This was also his latest defense as AEW World Champion, as both belts were on the line. Now, with Don Callis, The Good Brothers & The Young Bucks by his side? We can expect him to march into AEW Dynamite like a conquering hero coming home from battle. But will the AEW roster expect him to put his new belt on the line?
AEW Has Had Other Promotions Championships Defended On Dynamite
Something like this would never happen in WWE these, even in NXT UK where Noam Dar is ICW World Heavyweight Champion, he’s not acknowledged as a champion. This is while WWE hosts ICW shows on the WWE Network, having a clear link. Outside of the invasion angle and a smaller NWA invasion, titles outside of WWE don’t get TV time.
AEW is different. Kenny Omega himself has defended the AAA Mega Championship on TV against Sammy Guevara, and Thunder Rosa & Serena Deeb have defended the NWA Women’s Championship. Even Jon Moxley has taken the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship to the ring on occasion, but has never defended it. Omega defending the Impact Wrestling World Championship on Dynamite isn’t out of the question.
Don Callis Could Send Some ‘Top Talent’ For Kenny Omega To Squash
As for who he will defend it against, that could be where things get interesting. With Don Callis being a character in both Impact & AEW, we could see him be pivotal to Omega building up his reign by making successful defenses. This likely wouldn’t mean names like James Storm, Moose, or even Ace Austin showing up on AEW Dynamite.
It feels more likely that Callis would bring in some lower card names like Fallah Baah or Johnny Swinger for quick title defenses with Omega on AEW TV, and save the big names for Impact Wrestling. These would be simple matches, and just would serve to inflate the reign, win record, and ego of Omega before someone finally took him down.
