Are the AEW Elite no more? It looks like the honeymoon period in AEW may be over as it’s been reported by the PWTorch that AEW’s EVPs aren’t talking anymore.
It looks like there’s friction behind the scenes in AEW as the Elite, Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) are fighting amongst themselves and may not be talking.
If true, this is problematic at best given Cody is in charge of the men’s singles division, the Young Bucks the tag team division, and Omega serves as an ambassador type to Japan. Brandi Rhodes runs the women’s division.
If they can’t figure things out, there’s no doubt their on screen product will suffer and it could mean the end of AEW at some point, but that’s most likely a long way off.
The new broke on PWTorch’s podcast when Wade Keller reported (special thanks to thesportster.com for the transcript):
“There’s gonna be a book written someday by some of these EVPs or someone else closely observing and we’re gonna learn about a lot of dysfunction.” And then he continued, “There are certain key people who aren’t even talking to each other anymore.”
Not all doom and gloom
We mentioned above how this could end badly for AEW, but issues like these aren’t new to any company and they’re usually smoothed out behind closed doors one way or another.
We have no doubt AEW will try to keep this quiet as would any company, but professional wrestling is a small enclosed circle where everyone knows each other and word travels fast.
According to the sportster article we linked above. A big name free agent is reportedly hesitant about going there due to the in-fighting and may decide not to sign.
Our first thought is Daniel Bryan whose contract recently ended with the WWE, but it could be Andrade or others as well.
This could be the biggest problem Tony Kahn has had to deal with since starting AEW, and he may have to step in to help smooth things out before it starts hurting his company.
This will be a good test where he and the rest are going forward. Over the last year or so he’s reportedly taken a more hands on approach in the creative and other aspects, so we doubt he’ll sit back here.
We hope they do resolve any problems that may be going on before it starts affecting the product more than is may already have.
Will the AEW EVPs work through this or is the Elite no more? Let us know in the comments below.
