Two weeks ago, All Elite Wrestling delivered a show full of main event worthy matches. One of those matches was ‘Hangman’ Adam Page & ‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks, which very well could end up being the main event of a future AEW PPV event. However on this night we saw a fairly basic singles match, and not everyone was able to walk away unscathed. Ricky Starks is out for at least three months with a neck injury.
A Release German Suplex Gone Wrong Saw Ricky Starks Land On His Head
Midway through the match, Hangman Page would launch Ricky Starks with a release German Suplex. While the plan seemed to be that Starks would land on his feet and continue his attack on Page, things went wrong and Starks instead would land on his neck. He’d be able to get back up and finish the match, but it was clear that he wasn’t okay afterwards.
While early reports said that Starks was fine after the match, we now have confirmation that Starks had injured his neck. No surgery will be needed, but he will be kept out of the ring for at least the next three months. He will likely remain on TV alongside the rest of Team Taz, being the best talker in the group.
Starks Will Be Able To Return To The Ring While On The Road With AEW
Not needing surgery to make a full recovery is the best case scenario for Starks, and it will mean that when he is able to make his return to the ring, it’s unlikely to be in Jacksonville. AEW is planning on getting back on the road and has shows planned for Miami, Dallas and Austin.
Starks won’t be wrestling on any of these dates, but if they go well, AEW will be hitting new towns weekly for Dynamite. Since his debut with AEW, Starks has only been able to wrestle in Jacksonville, and the change of scenery and fans could be a huge boon for the promising star.
