Since making their return from lockdown, Ring Of Honor has been seeming to do everything right. They started off with the critically acclaimed Pure Rules Tournament, which saw the return of the Pure Title and a shift in style for the company. From there, they’ve run two successful PPV events in Final Battle & 19th Anniversary, with their only issues being that the shows were simply too long to have no crowd. Now, ROH looks to continue down this path as they bring back the Survival Of The Fittest Tournament.
Survival Of The Fittest 2021 Will Start On ROH TV In June
We last saw a Survival Of The Fittest Tournament from ROH in 2018, but after fans on the ROH Experience facebook page asked for it, ROH decided it was time to bring the tournament back. We will see the qualifying matches air on ROH TV, with the winners entering the Survival Of The Fittest six way match to determine the winner. Whoever is able to win will have earned a shot at the ROH World Championship.
This tournament was first seen in 2004, and last held in 2018 where Marty Scurll was the winner over Christopher Daniels, Guerrero Maya Jr., Hangman Page, Jonathan Gresham and PJ Black. Other past winners include Tyler Black (aka Seth Rollins), Bryan Danielson, Jay Lethal and Adam Cole.
With the current ROH roster, we can expect names like Matt Taven, Brian Johnson, Jay Lethal, Eli Isom, Bandido and more to enter the field of sixteen, with some of them likely to also go all the way to the finals.
Actually Listening To The Fans Has Helped ROH Immensely
One of the major things that has helped ROH both rebuild their fanbase and image after a rough 2019 is listening to fan feedback. The Experience facebook page isn’t simply a gimmick, and ROH seems to be genuinely taking in what fans say and using it to improve their product. ROH was seen in an incredibly negative light prior to their restart, and while things aren’t quite perfect, they’re certainly improving.
Hopefully once ROH is able to bring fans back into the mix, this leads to better attendance numbers. With AEW set to get back on the road, and WWE likely to follow along, it won’t be long before ROH doesn’t have to run empty arenas.
