When Josh Woods faced Dalton Castle at ROH 19th Anniversary, he had his mentor Silas Young in his corner. Atleast, that seemed to be the case. Instead, Young was waiting for his chance to nail Woods in the face with a steel chair behind the back of the referee, handing the win to Dalton Castle. This all came due to Woods refusing to go back to just being Young’s protege and tag team partner. Tonight, they meet in a grudge match, where Young will properly test Woods to show that he’s not ready to go alone.
Josh Woods Came Ready For War
Josh Woods finally had his own music in this match, and a new moniker of The Technical Beast. However, Young would attack him from behind as he came down the ramp. This one was a brawl from the start, and Young is a much better brawler. Young would look to use a steel chair, but Woods kicked it into his face.
They’d finally get back into the ring, and Woods would get driven throat first into the ropes by Young. Young would hit an inverted suplex before hitting a quick dropkick, and would continue to mock Woods as he beat him down. Woods fought back but missed a pump kick, and took a Codebreaker for a two count. Young applied a chokehold on Woods alongside a body scissor, but Woods was able to break out.
Woods blocked a suplex attempt, but the damage to the back from the brawling of Young prevented him from getting one of his own. Young nailed a big boot to the face, before applying an abdominal stretch. Woods countered into a hip toss, before Young slipped to the apron and outmaneuvered Woods, only to be driven into the corner with a Fisherman Buster.
Silas Young Has Some Tricks Left
Woods would nail some rushing forearm strikes. A twisting butterfly suplex would plant Young, before a backbreaker in the ropes before a German Suplex. Woods was getting a bit wild, and looked for the Gorilla Lock but Young nearly effortlessly blocked. Young hit the Anarchist Suplex for a two count, before setting up the Peeweegee Plunge, which Woods blocked.
Woods went for the rolling German Suplex out of the corner, but Young countered into a roll up. Young sent Woods to the apron, and looked to bring him in the hard way, but they’d battle for control. Both men ended up on the apron, and they’d trade forearm shots before Woods looked for a German Suplex off the apron.
Young blocked, but was instead hip tossed over the ropes. Woods slipped in and applied a submission, but Young was able to counter into a pinfall. With his feet on the rope for leverage, he was able to pin Woods and escape the ring.
A hard fought grudge match, that is just the start of a longer feud. Young showed that he still has a few tricks over Woods, and that while he taught Woods everything he knows, Young didn’t teach him everything he knows. This was technically sound and hard hitting, a trademark ROH match. Match Rating: /5 ()
