Wrestlemania 37 felt like it was set to be the moment for WWE Hall of Famer, Edge to bring his career back to where it should be. It was ten years to the day from when he was forced into retirement, and he was in the main event again. He faced down WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and fellow challenger Daniel Bryan, but in the end Reigns would pin both of them to retain.
Since then, Daniel Bryan kept the fight going with Reigns, ending with him losing a match which ended his WWE run. Edge however, has been missing since Wrestlemania. Following Wrestlemania: Backlash, Roman Reigns is still the WWE Universal Champion. Could Edge be ready to step up and take Reigns down?
Edge Didn’t Get His One On One Match With Roman Reigns
When Edge was able to win the 2021 Royal Rumble despite starting the match, he expected that he would have had a simple one on one match at Wrestlemania 37. Due to him attacking Daniel Bryan with a chair at Fastlane however, this match morphed into a Triple Threat, which alone took his odds down.
If Edge had gotten Reigns one on one, in a match that wasn’t under no disquilifaction rules? He might have been able to use his experience to overcome the dominant Reigns. That’s the edge he has over men like Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, and Cesaro. However, there is always a chance this match comes soon.
Not Many Worthy Contenders On Smackdown Live For Coming PPV Events
Right now, Roman Reigns is as strong as we’ve ever seen. He was able to beat Cesaro & Daniel Bryan clean as a whistle, even sending Bryan packing from Smackdown. Kevin Owens similarly lost many matches of Reigns, and wouldn’t make a convincing challenger.
However, Edge is a legend despite his loss to Reigns at Wrestlemania 37. He could walk onto Smackdown and call his shot, and have a strong chance at getting his title shot. While he was nearing becoming a heel once again, once fans return to WWE, he will be back to being an instant fan favorite.
Fans are expected back around mid July, and that makes Money in the Bank the next PPV. Edge as the wiley veteran babyface taking on the dominant heel champion is a classic storyline to tell, and sometimes those are the best.
