Last Wednesday Night, we saw one of the best matches in AEW Dynamite history with Blood & Guts. Taking the traditional WarGames format, The Inner Circle & The Pinnacle tore into each other until Sammy Guevara surrendered for The Inner Circle to try and protect Chris Jericho from being tossed off the cell. MJF threw him anyway, in an attempt to create an infamous moment in AEW history.
While this match has gotten near universal applause from wrestling fans and wrestlers alike, it wasn’t perfect. The ending fell a bit flat due to shoddy camera work, but the match itself was a brutal and bloody affair. It was a throwback, and that didn’t sit well with everyone.
WWE Management Thought AEW Blood & Guts Set The Industry Back
As per Dave Scherer of PWInsider, there were some people in WWE management who disliked the Blood & Guts match after seeing the match. One person told Scherer that “That just set the business back 30 years”, and it wasn’t meant in a good way. He also spoke with wrestlers in WWE, and they loved the match and hope to do something like that in their career.
Settling the business back 30 years could be taken as that his match did it’s job, as it was emulating the classic WarGames matches of old, the ones containing teams like the Four Horseman. It had a serious level of grit and violence, something that we don’t even see in the NXT versions of WarGames, which while violent rarely see blood involved to the level of Blood & Guts.
It is ironic that WWE management could feel that anything another company did can set the industry back, when recently on Monday Night RAW, we once again saw produce being thrown, and Angel Garza shove a rose where the sun don’t shine on Drew Gulak. Those are just a few of the segments that have done harm to the industry from WWE in the last few years.
We don’t know who in WWE Management could have said this, but do you think they were correct on this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
