At Double Or Nothing 2021, Jungle Boy was the last one standing in the Casino Battle Royale. This earned him a shot at the AEW World Championship, currently held by Kenny Omega. Now after weeks of teasing and brawling, Jungle Boy is ready for the biggest match of his career. He’s constantly been able to up his game, but is he on the same level as Omega? Last time we had a Saturday Night Dynamite, Brodie Lee shocked the world by winning the TNT Championship. Could we see another shocker?
Jungle Boy Is Ready For a Huge Fight
Before the match could start, Luchasaurus, Mark Stunt, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson were sent backstage making this properly one on one. Omega showed his power advantage early on, driving Jungle Boy into the corner. Jungle Boy slipped out and got a wrist lock, taking Omega down before Omega sprung back up and pulled him down by his hair.
Omega would look for the Rolling Fireman’s Carry, but Jungle Boy was able to deftly counter before being taken outside. Jungle Boy was driven into the barricades, Omega trying to rough him up. He’d come back with a shotgun dropkick on the floor, before Omega hit a back suplex onto the steel steps and dumped him into the crowd.
Back in the ring, Omega would hit the Rolling Fireman’s Carry, but Jungle Boy dodged the moonsault before going for a senton and just finding the knees of Omega instead. Omega would nearly lose it off an inside cradle, before Jungle Boy kept control with a sheer drop brainbuster. Jungle Boy kept in the fight and hit a dropkick to the knee before looking for a lariat.
Omega avoided the lariat and went for the Snap Dragon Suplex, only to be sent outside. Jungle Boy nailed two elbow suicide dives before hitting a swinging DDT in the ring. Omega slipped outside again and was hit with the Tope Con Hiro. Getting the champion back in the ring, Jungle Boy went up top but was caught by Omega.
Kenny Omega’s Killshot Never Fails
The superplex would take Jungle Boy into the middle of the ring, but Omega couldn’t get a proper pin and got a two count. He’d signal for the V-Trigger before missing and looking for a German Suplex. Jungle Boy fought free and hit a superkick, before taking a jumping knee strike, snap dragon suplex and V-Trigger.
Omega would look to end this with One Winged Angel, but Jungle Boy got a reverse rana and sliding elbow strike. Jungle Boy looked for a ripcord attack, but Omega knows those well and countered with a knee strike. Another V-Trigger came but Jungle Boy countered into the Snare Trap. Gallows & Anderson came to ringside, but Marko Stunt & Frankie Kazarian made the save.
Omega got to the ropes, but was taken back down with a lariat. Jungle Boy looked for another brainbuster, but Omega nailed one of his own. Another V-Trigger and One Winged Angel attempt saw another counter into a roll up! Omega kicked out at two, but Jungle Boy went back into the Snare Trap, breaking free by yanking the hair of Jungle Boy.
The pressure was kept as Jungle Boy set up a super hurricanrana, only to be driven first off the top turnbuckle. V-Trigger to the back of the head was followed by Tiger Driver ‘97, and finally the One Winged Angel sealed the deal.
For an AEW Championship match on an episode of Dynamite, this was fantastic. There was very little nonsense in the mix, with Omega winning clean while Jungle Boy wrestled one of his best matches yet. This was just what it needed to be, but we can expect bigger matches from these two in the future. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
Following the match, Omega wanted to smash Jungle Boy with the AEW World Championship. Christian Cage made the save, only for Matt Hardy & Private Party to attack him, continuing that feud. Cage almost had it under control until The Young Bucks appeared for a double superkick. Hardy nailed the Twist of Fate, leaving Cage down and out.
