At this point in his career, Matt Hardy is a legend. He has been wrestling since the early 90’s, and has worked for WWE, Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and now is in All Elite Wrestling. Hardy has done it all, from winning World Championships to changing the perception of cinematic matches with his character work as Broken Matt Hardy. However, many fans mainly will think of his tag team work when his name pops up.
He broke into the industry alongside his brother Jeff Hardy, and they peaked in popularity during the Attitude Era, where their tag team clashes with Team 3D and Edge & Chrisitan were generally what would steal the show. It’s been a while since they’ve teamed. Jeff Hardy has remained in WWE, while Matt Hardy left for AEW. They’re both in singles roles, and doing well. Despite this, Matt Hardy knows they’ll team again, and that’s how he wants his career to end.
Matt Hardy Wants To End His Career How It Started
While hosting his first ever AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on this Twitch Channel, Matt Hardy got a ton of questions from his fanbase. These included what he thought about fans coming back after months away due to COVID-19, if he plans on writing another book about his career, and the scariest bumps he ever took. The most interesting bit of information came with the question of which gimmick he wants to end his career on.
There is everything from his current Big Money Matt, to the ever popular Broken Matt Hardy, to even Version 1.0. However, how Hardy wants to end his career is how he started it. “The gimmick I’d like to end my career on, teaming with my brother as the Hardy Boys. Real life Matt, and Real life Jeff, doing our thing. To go out the way you came in is super cool. I would love Jeff to come to AEW, A proper feud with the Hardy Boys vs the Young Bucks would be amazing. And to those it may piss off, I stand with Omega. I love that guy.”
Would Jeff Hardy Leave WWE For AEW?
At this point in WWE, Jeff Hardy is in a weird spot. He’s wanting one last run at the top where he tries to win the WWE Championship. Once fans return he’s likely to bring back his iconic singles theme song of “No More Words” by Endeverafter, which WWE has the rights to use. He recently lost a match to John Morrison on Monday Night RAW, and faced Cedric Alexander directly after in a self imposed Career Threatening match.
Hardy reportedly signed a new contract in 2020, which was in the two to three year range. This means he’s got a few years left in WWE, provided he doesn’t request his release or gets cut for ‘budgetary reasons’. When he finishes up, WWE will likely try to keep him around, even if on just a legends deal. But there would be a spot for him in AEW so long as his brother is there.
