Jeff Hardy is a man who needs no introduction. He’s one of the most popular professional wrestlers of the modern era. It doesn’t matter if he’s in a tag team with his brother Matt, or as the world champion in Impact Wrestling or WWE. His daredevil style inspired many, with young fans viewing him as a real life superhero.
However, Jeff Hardy isn’t the same anymore. Years of injuries, dangerous stunts, and battles with personal demons have left him as a shell of his former self. Recent performances have been lacking, and it might be time for a change.
Jeff Hardy Shines With Character Work As A Heel
While it’s rarely been used in WWE, Jeff Hardy is more than just a talented babyface. His time in Impact Wrestling showed him as an excellent heel, with his run as the Antichrist of Professional Wrestling or his work as the character Willow standing out. Focusing on character work would allow Hardy to misdirect fans, and distract from his aging body slowing himself down in the ring.
WWE could even pull from now unused plans from the recently released Aleister Black for Hardy, as a way to reuse the Dark Father character. It would be something new for Hardy, and even if it falls flat, it would be near impossible to kill fan interest in Jeff Hardy at this point.
A Grizzled Old High Flier Could Still Connect With Fans
One of the reasons why Hardy has been muted is the lack of fans. He’s been waiting for the fans to return to bring back his old singles theme, No More Words, and perhaps even take one last run at the top prize of WWE. Hardy has always had an undeniable babyface fire, and an unmatched connection with fans.
In an era where WWE lacks major babyface stars, they might not be able to risk missing out on one last run from an old favorite in Jeff Hardy. Just focusing on that connection, and displaying him as a scrappy but experienced veteran taking on a dominant force like Bobby Lashley or Drew McIntyre could create something truly special.
