Back in 2019, we saw a single elimination tournament in NXT with some new faces being brought into the mix. This was the Breakout Tournament, and is where NXT fans were introduced to names like current NXT North American Championship Bronson Reed, and others like Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, Dexter Lumis, Joaquin Wilde and Cameron Grimes.
While the eventual winner Jordan Myles would leave WWE shortly after, the tournament can be considered a huge success. It has fans wondering if WWE should do a second installment to further boost the roster.
Huge Potential In A Women’s Breakout Tournament
While the men’s roster in NXT is rock solid following the first Breakout tournament and some other strong additions like Austin Theory, the women’s roster could use something like this. The field would be easy to fill with names like Zoey Stark, Xia Li, Sarray, Kacy Catanzaro, Jessi Kamea, Zayda Ramier, B-Fab and Gigi Dolin.
These are all names who have big potential in NXT, but have never held either the NXT Women’s Tag Team or NXT Women’s Championships. This could even just be used to launch Franky Monet to a title shot, and establish her as a contender for Raquel Gonzalez.
Potential Field For A Second Men’s Breakout Tournament
However, if WWE wanted to do the same thing again for the men’s division, there would be a lot of talent who could be in the mix. If you simply go by people who haven’t claimed singles gold in NXT, a lot of the first tournament would still fit in, like Grimes, Swerve, & Lumis. You could even have LA Knight join the tournament, as the Million Dollar Championship isn’t sanctioned by NXT.
Other names like Austin Theory, Tyler Rust, Carmelo Hayes or Timothy Thatcher could fit in, and this would be a great way to move someone into contendership for Karrion Kross, who just took down all four top contenders at NXT Takeover: In Your House.
