Earlier tonight, Swerve and the rest of Hit Row cornered the NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed. They both made their debut during the NXT Breakout Tournament, and now Swerve is ready to prove that he was actually the breakout star of the bunch. Reed wouldn’t turn down the challenge from Swerve, and now tonight these two will clash over the NXT North American Championship. With little time to prepare for Reed, and Swerve perhaps at his best?
Bronson Reed Throws His Weight Around
These are two men who know their strengths and weaknesses very well, and Reed would show his power early on as he shoved Swerve off in the opening lock up. Swerve would be launched but landed on his feet, and tried to power Swerve to the mat. Reed would outwrestle Swerve and get a headlock.
Swerve shoved him off, only to be nailed with a shoulder tackle. Reed was briefly locked in an armbar, before Swerve was thrown off. A rush from Swerve was met with a swat out of the sky before a military press. So far, this was going like every other encounter between these two, with Swerve lacking an answer for the power of Reed.
Swerve kept trying and took this one to the apron, where he’d chop at the thigh of Reed, and maybe found an opening. He’d hit some kicks to the thigh, and look for a Sunset Flip Powerbomb, only to have Reed sit down and crush Swerve on the apron.
Hit Row Leads Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott To The Win
Through the picture in picture break, Swerve would finally get some ground in this match with some quick attacks off the apron with kicks, and some blows to the thighs in the ring. Coming back from the break. Swerve was still in control but Reed got some room to breathe as he placed Swerve on the apron and hit some chops.
Reed would be caught by a German Suplex off the ropes for a two count, an impressive show of power from the former Cruiserweight. Swerve went for a sleeper hold only to be thrown off. He’d roll back towards Reed and keep the pressure on with a Flatliner, but still only get a two count.
Reed would block the House Call kick and nail a lariat, before Swerve was able to launch off a basement dropkick. Swerve would look for another Flatliner, but end up in a Death Valley Driver. Reed would hit some forearm and elbow strikes before a Bionic Elbow sent Swerve to the corner.
A big body block set up the Tsunami Splash, but Top Dolla distracted the referee while Adonis shoved him down. Top Dolla tried to rush Reed but was sent through the barricade, and Adonis was thrown onto him. As Reed got back into the ring, he’d take a kick to the head from Swerve followed by a 450 Splash, getting us a new NXT North American Champion!
Reed & Swerve have great chemistry, and they were able to build off previous matches tonight to have their best clash yet. We’d see Swerve slowly cut Reed down, and show why having a faction is a huge boon as Adonis & Top Dolla sacrificed themselves to give Swerve an opening to get the win. Swerve has been on the rise in 2021, and this is just the start. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
