The current IWTV Champion Wheeler Yuta has been popping up in AEW on shows like Dark as of late, and tonight this talented grappler gets to showcase his skills to the world at Fyter Fest. He will meet another up and coming talent, and someone who could already be a main event player in AEW in Sammy Guevara. We can expect a fairly clean exhibition match between these two, unless The Pinnacle decides to crash the party.
Wheeler Yuta Has Potential, But Sammy Guevara Is The Current Star
Yuta is backed up and supported by The Best Friends, coming out to their music for his Dynamite debut. He’s become their protege, and could be someone we see a lot more of in AEW. However, he’s facing a native Texan in Sammy Guevara, so we have a clear fan favorite.
Yuta was sent off the ropes to start, and Guevara flipped and dodged to avoid him and nailed a dropkick. Sent to the outside, Yuta would almost get hit with a big dive, before Guevara instead backflipped back into the middle of the ring. Yuta back in the ring, Guevara would nail a quick powerslam before going up top. He’d miss two moonsaults before hitting a standing Shooting Star Press.
Yuta would counter a top rope Shooting Star press and show his technical prowess with a snap German Suplex, before hitting a diving splash to get a one count. Guevara would lay in some big chops and launch Yuta with a back body drop, before hitting an enziguri and double springboard cutter. GTH would close this one out, and Guevara takes the win.
Don’t Mess With The Magical Girl
The magical girl of professional wrestling is finally back in AEW. After a recent win over KiLynn King on AEW: Dark Elevation, Sakazaki is set for a high profile showing tonight on Night One of Fyter Fest. She will clash with Penelope Ford, who was last seen on Dynamite when she claimed a win over the rookie Julia Hart.
Sakazaki would show her speed early on in this match, as she was outsized like usual. Ford was tripped up and hit with a dropkick to the back, before slipping outside. Sakazaki would come down onto Ford on the outside with a springboard cannonball, making it look easy. Back in the ring, she would only get a one count before Ford would choke Sakazaki on the ropes.
Ford showed her speed with a handspring back elbow before launching Sakazaki with a German Suplex. She’d take the fight to the outside, and win out on the brawling before taking Sakazaki into the ring for the Muta Lock. Sakazaki fought to the ropes, before Ford pulled her back to center and reapplied this hold only for it to be broken.
Ford would be taken down with a delayed vertical suplex, before a snapmare into a rolling gamiguri. A sliding forearm got a two count, and Sakazaki followed up with a spinning back elbow, before taking two pump kicks back to back. Sakazaki wouldn’t stay down, and would show her power with a spin out facebuster, before hitting Magical Girl Splash for the win.
A solid showing from the AEW Women’s division. Sakazaki has been missed, with her energy simply being infectious. Ford held her own and played the heel role well, but was the weak link in this match. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
