Right now in WWE, they are back on the road; but the quality of their shows hasn’t gotten much better. Smackdown remains a fun watch, but RAW is about the same as always, even with some major returns like Keith Lee. Lee has spent most of 2021 out of action for still unknown reasons, and his poor booking since he returned has fans wondering if he’s on his way out of the company.
Keith Lee Has Had Baffling Booking Since Leaving NXT
Since returning from his unexplained absence from WWE, Lee has not been having a great time in the ring. He lost quick matches to both Bobby Lashley & Karrion Kross, seemingly going right back to where he was before he vanished from TV earlier in 2021. Lee still has massive fan support, making his poor booking all the more noticed by everyone.
It seems like WWE has done everything in their power to keep Lee from becoming a star, from changing up his NXT theme song, attire, and even watering down his style. Despite a hot start on the main roster where he defeated Randy Orton, he hasn’t done anything of note since then, despite being one of their best prospects.
Could He Be On His Way Out Of WWE?
When Keith Lee signed with WWE, three year contracts were the norm, with him having signed in May of 2018. Adding in time for his absence which might have seen his contract freeze, and he could be set to finish up his contract in the coming weeks. WWE has had wrestlers booked poorly on their way out of the company previously.
This also lines up with Lee promising to tell the story of his absence to fans in ‘a few weeks’, which would have him potentially talking about some backstage issues with WWE. His exact statement was “I’ve decided. I am just going to tell you guys the story myself. Give me a week or two.”
It was reported that he was refusing to give up the Keith Lee trademark to WWE, which was the reason he was kept out of the ring. If this is the case, him wanting to leave WWE could very well be a chance, but he has really kept fans guessing.
