YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is unimpressed by Dana White’s business practices. Despite White purchasing and turning the UFC into a global sporting powerhouse, he thinks White is doing a terrible job at running the organisation, telling White in a Twitter tirade that “you live in lies”:
“Dana White… you may have bullied your way to controlling thousands of fighter careers… but I have never said I want to sing [sic] with the UFC… nor will I ever…”
Jake Paul Savages “bald bum” Dana White
Maybe I would consider letting you co-promote one [of] my events against a UFC champion like you did for Conor when he fought Floyd… because you wouldn’t let Conor actually do it for himself without you taking your cut…
The barbs continued, with Paul dropping the names of various fighters on the UFC roster:
“You live in lies and every major fighter on your roster has complained about pay… Conor, Jones, Masvidal, Ngannou. You even make up fake belts to sell tickets instead of giving Amanda Nunes her opportunity to headline..
Remember Dana you were a cardio kickboxing instructor and didn’t even create the UFC (Gracie and Davie created it, the Fertittas saved it, and the FIGHTERS made it popular).
YOU’RE a bald bum who can’t do an interview now without being asked about me… pay your fighters more!!”
The issue of UFC fighter pay remains controversial. Francis Ngannou and John Jones have both spoken out about how little the UFC’s fighters are paid compared to other sports. If the UFC’s marquee names are worried about their income, the star’s legions of journeymen and unranked challengers are surely taking serious issue.
Jake Paul likes taking shots at Dana White, and this is probably less of an altruistic call-out than it is a way for the YouTube star to stoke the fires of their rivalry. Paul and White have feuded publicly ever since Paul called Ben Askren out.
Famously, Jake Paul knocked Ben Askren out in the boxing ring. Defeating a middle-aged wrestler in the boxing ring has given Paul serious confidence in his fighting ability, and Paul will next take on former UFC welterweight champion/actor/rapper Tyron Woodley.
Love him or hate him, Jake Paul may have a point. Do you think the UFC needs to pay its fighters more? Is Jake Paul right to criticize Dana White for taking centre stage while his fighters risk it all in the ring? Let us know in the comments.
