This past week on AEW Dynamites special episode, Fyter Fest; Lance Archer was able to claim some singles gold. He defeated Jon Moxley in a Texas Death Match, winning the IWGP United States Championship in the process. This puts him alongside Kenny Omega as the only person to claim singles wins over Moxley in AEW, but also had a heavy toll on Archer. As expected after a Texas Deathmatch, neither Archer or Moxley is doing too well, and it has caused Archer to have to pull out of an indy date.
Lance Archer Was Unable To Fulfill An Indy Date Due To AEW
Lance Archer was set for a match earlier today against Big CazXL, also known as William Morrisey in Impact Wrestling & Big Cass in WWE. This was for SWE Fury, a promotion which runs in Texas. Archer would be open to the company about needing time to heal up, and there was understanding found, as indicated by his tweet.
“So. Unfortunately, I will NOT be appearing in Lubbock, TX today for @SWEFuryTV. I want to thank #SWEFURY for their understanding that after my brutal match on Wed and a big match scheduled for this Wednesday. It was in everyone’s best interest that I take this time to recover.”
Archer Is Fast Approaching His First Title Defense
The big match in question is his defense of the IWGP United States Championship, which will be against Hikuleo of New Japan Pro Wrestling, who will look to take the championship home with him. This is a big match for Hikuleo, as it will be his first big exposure to most western fans, and big for Archer as any title defense is a big deal.
It makes a lot of sense for Archer to pull out of an indy date to heal for the bigger show. He did promo work to help build up the match with CazXL, but this is a match they can simply rebook and do down the line when Archer can enter it at 100%. It would almost be worse for Archer to show up and not be able to give his all, than to simply miss the date.
