Moves of DOOM Monday: Cody Rhodes
The son of the son of a plumber, Cody Rhodes is a fan favorite no matter where he goes. I think that we can all agree that Cody has gotten better in the ring since leaving and returning to WWE. He picked up some new moves but let’s see how they match up to my DOOM scale.
Cross Rhodes
The inverted version of his brother’s finisher move, the Cross Rhodes is a reverse twisting neck breaker.
The move looks great when he does it and it is believable as a finisher. People rarely kick out of this move which is another positive thing about it.
While I like it a lot, there is a downfall to this move. The Cross Rhodes is heavily dependent on how the opponent sells the move to make it look good and devastating.
I think that Cody has a few other moves that people may think is a better finisher move than this like the Tiger Driver ‘98, but I like it being the Cross Rhodes.
DOOM Score: 4 out of 5
Disaster Kick
This move is a springboard kick off of the middle rope. Cody has never finished a match with this move but it always look buttery smooth when he does it.
The move is not the most impactful looking move but it gets the job of keeping the pace of the match and being a counter that Cody can do in any situation. I think that Cody could’ve had a signature move than this, but it gets the job done either way.
DOOM Score: 2 out of 5
Figure Four Leg Lock
Cody using this move seems like taboo. His father’s greatest rival was Ric Flair and Flair’s finisher move was the Figure Four.
The bad thing about this is that the move fits Cody and his wrestling style like a glove.
It is very hard to mess up a figure four and Cody does it just as well as anyone else does it. The only issue with Cody doing this move is that it never makes anyone tap out.
Of course, there will be a point or two taken off because of the ineffectiveness of the move.
DOOM Score: 3 out of 5
