If you haven’t paid attention to Twitter, you might not know that The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) want out of WWE. They were once considered the best tag team in the world during their time in NXT, but have floundered and have been turned into a bit of a joke since joining the main roster of RAW & Smackdown. With their contracts coming to a close, and AEW a likely destination for The Revival, WWE has begun to shut down attempts for them to maintain their brands.
WWE Starts Trademark Battle Over ‘No Flips, Just Fists’
Just a few days ago, The Revival filed their claim on the slogan ‘No Flips Just Fists’. This has been their mantra since NXT, and easily defines their old-school and hard hitting style. WWE has now launched a counter claim, which would allow them to steal this slogan from The Revival. WWE has also applied for their old team name of ‘The Mechanics’ and holds the trademark for ‘The Revival’. This is simply a petty move from WWE, but not an uncommon thing for them to do.
Will This Effect The Revival?
Despite this new effort from WWE, The Revival will be completely fine. They own the rights to trademarks like ‘Shatter Machine’, ‘#FTR’ and ‘Top Guys’. Any of those would make for fantastic names to use if they jump to AEW, and they will become stars no matter if they are able to use their current name. They will also need to change their ringnames, as WWE owns Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson.
WWE is not going to make it easy, but they should have the ability to overcome these hurdles. The one thing WWE can’t use their power to maintain is the in-ring ability of this team. AEW has some of the best tag teams in the world, and people have wanted to see The Revival face The Young Bucks for years now. Their skills in this division will get people talking, and they will reestablish themselves as Top Guys in a few short months.
