Dominik Mysterio Made WWE Debut Without A Contract

One of the better surprises to come out of WWE in the past few years as been Dominik Mysterio. The son of Rey Mysterio is no stranger to long time WWE fans, having been the center of perhaps the only custody battle to be decided in a ladder match, but in 2020 he would make his debut as an in-ring wrestler taking on Seth Rollins at Summerslam. This was just the start of his run, and before he properly signed his first WWE contract.

Dominik Mysterio Was In The Middle Of Negotiations At Time Of Summerslam 2020

While appearing on the “Keepin’ It 100” podcast with Konnan & Disco Inferno, Dominik Mysterio would talk about his WWE in-ring debut at Summerslam 2020 – and how he didn’t have a WWE contract signed at the time.

“I did SummerSlam without being on contract. So I got paid for that pay-per-view. We were in the middle of negotiations so it was all kind of being handled at the time. But in good faith, I was like, ‘Yeah dude, I’ll do it.’”

There was little for Dominik to gain by trying to screw over WWE in 2020, and the Mysterio family are known to be easy to work with. His father spent a time in 2020 without a WWE contract as well, but would still show up for his matches as needed while a new deal was met.

    Learning On The Job

The on-screen improvements of Dominik have been clear, especially for someone with limited time training. He was thrown on TV before he was truly ready, and has had to learn on the job with millions watching every single move. Despite this insane pressure, he’s been able to put all the pieces together – especially after joining the heel faction known as Judgement Day with Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley & Damien Priest.

As a babyface, Dominik has issues getting fans behind him despite the best efforts of his father, but he’s proven to be a fantastic cowardly heel. His antics with his recent brief stint in prison have shown a higher level of personality, just the latest piece in the growing puzzle of Dominik Mysterio.

Will 2023 be the year Dominik Mysterio wins a singles championship in WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
