Back again to recap another episode of AEW Road To All Out. You can find recaps for episodes 3, 4, 5 & 6 by clicking those respective numbers.
Lexy Nair opens the episode in the Control Center. She talks up the feud between the Lucha Bros and the Young Bucks, hyping up their upcoming ladder match at All Out. We hear from Matt and Nick Jackson who put over their feud with the Lucha Bros as one of their best ever. They note that usually they have an advantage over every other team due to being brothers and having an unmatched chemistry. But in this instance they don’t have that advantage as Penta and Fenix are the same way. So it’s tricky as now they have to find a new way to win.
They call Penta the most charismatic man they’ve ever been in the ring with and Fenix the craziest they’ve ever been in the ring with. There’s a chance these are both true. But they say that when they challenged them to a ladder match, they must not have seen what they can do with ladders. This ladder match means the world to them and they need to hit a homerun with it.
Highlight package of Private Party and Evans & Angelico plays; those two teams will face off at the Buy In!
That’s gonna be an exciting one to be sure!
Jim Ross now having a sit-down interview with Hangman Page. JR says it’s simple to breakdown what his oncoming match with Chris Jericho means. It’s the match to crown the first-ever AEW World Champion and there can only ever be one first. He brings up that many say it’s too much too soon for Hangman and asks what he feels about that. Page says that maybe for some people, Chris Jericho, a familiar face walking down the aisle as champion on TNT would be the best case scenario. But Page says AEW wasn’t built by familiar faces or corporate sponsorships, it was built by people doing ‘cowboy sh*t’, people who can give them something different. And Page believes he can give them something different.
JR mentions that he’s watched a lot of Page’s matches and thinks that he’s never been in the ring with something as dangerous as Chris Jericho. JR brings up that he’s probably called more of Jericho’s matches than anyone and says that he can’t see a weakness in him. Page says you kinda can’t train for someone like Chris Jericho, someone who will stab you in the back at any time. He mentions that he grew up, almost his entire life watching Chris Jericho. He says that one weakness that he has is how physically desperate for the championship he is at this moment.
Jericho really wants to beat the Hangman, but Page doesn’t want this, he needs it.
JR asks if Hangman minds being the underdog. Page says he’s been that way his whole career. JR asks about his family and Hangman recalls being brought up on a tobacco farm. He remembers his dad telling him that he needed to find something else to do. And he feels at this point that he’s found it. His parents are gonna be on a plane for the first time in fifteen years to see this match.
Jim Ross closes by asking what Page would say to Chris Jericho, knowing that he’s probably listening. Page says this is what he’s got, this is his opportunity. If Jericho loses, he can make another Fozzy record, he’ll be fine on his AEW contract. For Page, this might be his only opportunity. And he would do anything to win that championship because he has to. In front of his family and the fans that have been following for years and years, he has to win this.
