My oh my, was that ever a long night… but it was sure worth it! Ladies and gentlemen, Wrestle Kingdom 14 is, technically still upon us as we speak as we are now between halves of this pro wrestling extravaganza! Night 1 finished a few hours ago as I type this and frankly I’ve only just now begun to decompress from all that I’ve witnessed. As I said before any of this even started, it’s going to go down as a truly unforgettable weekend in professional wrestling’s storied history.
Due to the time of the event, it seemed a little unnecessary to give the live results in addition to the live recap but now that the sun is officially up in the West, this seems like a more apt time to go into what went down. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and with no further delay, let’s talk WK14!
In the Special Stardom Match, Mayu Iwatani & Arisa Hoshiki defeated Hana Kimura & Giulia.
This match was not aired, having been advertised as a dark match. Supposedly this is actually due to conflicting TV rights, and thus this may change in the future, once contract negotiations kick up again. Either way, I can only tell you a handful of details about it.
But the winners here are no surprise, given that Iwatani and Hoshiki are the World of Stardom and Wonder of Stardom champions respectively. In other words, their top champion and most significant secondary champion. It makes sense that you’d want to put them over strong here in this first outing in front of a new audience.
Per Stardom’s twitter account, the ending of the match saw a mistake between the opposing team, when Giulia mistakenly hit her partner with an errant missile dropkick. This in turn led to Iwatana hitting a series of big moves on Kimura, capped off with a Moonsault for the victory.
