Wrestling Universe is a multi-part series investigating the historic Big Egg Wrestling Universe event hosted by All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling on November 20, 1994, that stands as the highest-grossing wrestling event put together by a women’s wrestling promotion.
GAEA Japan (GAEA) held an introductory press conference on August 24, 1994, with founder Chigusa Nagoya joined by initial roster members KAORU and Bomber Hikaru. Despite not planning to begin booking events until 1995, All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling (AJW) incorporated the emergent promotion into the historic Big Egg Wrestling Universe (Wrestling Universe) event. Of note, the famed Meiko Staomura was a part of the initial GAEA rookie class, making her debut during GAEA’s first event on April 4, 1995.
The first match of the historic Wrestling Universe saw the innovative Chaparita Asari (AJW) and Bomber Hikari (GAEA) team together against Hiromi Sugo (Currently works as a referee) and Hiromi Yagi of Japanese Women Pro-Wrestling Project (JWP). The inexperience of Sugo, who was only an active wrestler for approximately two years, showed as Yagi looked to be the bright spot of their team.
Asari and Bomber worked well together, but it was Asari who stood out during the match, drawing numerous crowd reactions for her athletic display that was a decade ahead of its time. Bomber, was near the end of her active career compliment the athleticism of Asari with power, leading to Asari pinning Sugo in a straight forward fashion.
The second match was a mini’s handicap match where Great Little Muta and Buta Genjin defeated Tsunokake X in what was the Wrestling Universe match displaying the comedic side of professional wrestling, and the first of two matches to feature men during the 23 match parade.
