While it seems like a lifetime ago, at one point Corey Graves was a promising talent within NXT. A former NXT Tag Team Champion, Graves had the look and the skills to potentially be a star for WWE, but in 2014 he retired from the ring due to concussions. Since then, he has stayed away from the ring and instead moved to a long stint on commentary for WWE, starting in NXT and now working alongside Micheal Cole on Friday Night Smackdown. However, with injured stars like Edge coming back, could Graves potentially be next?
Training In The Ring With His Brother
In a video posted to Twitter by Corey Graves brother, Sam Adonis, we could see him & Graves training in the ring together. The clip was short and Graves didn’t take any bumps during it, but he hadn’t missed a step in the last 6 years since his early retirement. They did a simple sequence involving running the ropes, some drop downs, and Graves hitting a very crisp STO to end the clip. The tweet reads the following: “Had a blast in the ring with my Trainer Corey Graves for the first time in 5 years! Although, he did hit my with the STO that I stole from him! #YouStillGotIt #HardWorkPaysOff”
Graves has previously mentioned that he felt inspired by the return of Edge to the ring, so this could be the start of a return to form for the once promising star.
Corey Graves As A Manager
While his history with concussions could make it tricky to fully return to the ring, we could see Graves enter the ring with clients as a manager. Zelina Vega has brought back the manager lead faction with Andrade, Angel Garza & Austin Theory on RAW, and Graves could be the next to do this on the Smackdown brand. His skills on the microphone always eclipsed his in-ring ability, and those have only improved since he joined commentary. He would be a great manager, and this new training could be to help him take small bumps as needed.
Do you think Corey Graves should make a return to in ring action? Would that be too big a risk for him? If he is to become a manager, who would you like to see as his clients? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
