Matt Hardy was supposed to face Sammy Guevara on this night, but due to Guevara being suspended, it was changed. Instead, Hardy will face Santana of Proud n’ Powerful, another member of Inner Circle. Santana has the potential to be a huge star for AEW, and this could be the start of his singles career. Matt Hardy’s persona of the night would be Broken Matt Hardy.
Broken Matt Hardy Is Dangerous, But It’s Two On One
Santana would rush Hardy to start this match, taking control early with hard chops and punches. However, the veteran Hardy would get space with a backdrop over the top rope, and would make chase. He’d throw strikes of his own, with headbutts and even attacking the eyes of Santana. Biting the finishers of Santana, Hardy would maintain control, but Ortiz would hold Hardy back to help Santana gain control. He’d maintain this control through the commercial break even, though Hardy made several comeback attempts.
When the break ended, Hardy would try for the Side Effect, but Santana slipped out and hitting a Lionsault for the near fall. Hardy would counter the charge into the corner with a boot, but be beaten back down Santana went to the top rope, and Hardy presued only to find himself on the match. Santana would miss the frog splash, giving Hardy a chance to breath. They’d go toe to toe with strikes in the ring, Hardy getting the better of Santana, before hitting a huge lariat.
Matt Hardy Steals The Win
Hardy would nail the side effect, but Santana kicked out at one. Another side effect would follow, getting a two count. A third wouldn’t get the three. Hardy would then look for the Twist Of Fate, but settle for a reverse DDT, but Ortiz would distract the referee. Santana would hit a driver and go for the pin, only for Hardy to reverse and get the win.
