On August 29th, we will see the return of New Japan Pro Wrestling to Jingu Stadium for the first time in 21 years to close out the Summer Struggle tour. It will be an open stadium show, with five big title matches on the card, with the headliner being the rematch between EVIL & Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships. There is also a smaller return happening that night, as it will be the first event with live English commentary since NJPW returned to action.
Kevin Kelly & Chris Charlton Will Be On Live English Commentary For Summer Struggle In Jingu
While we have been seeing English commentary on recent New Japan Pro Wrestling, it has been uploaded a few days after events initially aired. This has made it tricky for fans who don’t want to listen to the Japanese commentary to stay up to date on NJPW while avoiding spoilers for several days. With Kevin Kelly, Chris Charlton & Gino Gambino unable to enter Japan due to travel restrictions, it makes sense there was no English commentary.
Now they will be doing the commentary from overseas, without being in the same room. This will be a major challenge for Kelly & Charlton, meaning that English commentary might be a bit of a mess for the Jingu Stadium show, but this shows hope going forward. They will have to work out some kinks following this show, but it will be great for fans who need the help of English commentary to understand the storylines.
The Announced Card So Far
Summer Struggle in Jingu Stadium is going to be a must see event for fans of New Japan Pro Wrestling. The headline matches include Tetsuya Naito vs. EVIL for the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships, Hiromu Takahashi vs. Taiji Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Shingo Takagi vs. Minoru Suzuki for the NEVER Openweight Championship, and Golden Ace vs. Dangerous Tekkers for the IWGP Tag Team Championships.
It is a much better card than what we saw at Dominion, with matches like Shingo vs. Suzuki & Ishimori vs. Takahashi are sure to deliver some fast paced and hard hitting action for fans. What match are you looking for most on this event? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
