G1 Climax 30 Night 8 saw eight-time former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, and winner of G1 Climax 17, G1 Climax 2015, & G1 Climax 2018 Hiroshi Tanahashi face CHAOS member Yoshi-Hashi.
Both wrestlers came into the match with a 1-2 record within the G1 Climax 30 B Block. Tanahashi was able to defeat former two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson during G1 Climax 30 Night 6, while Yoshi-Hashi upset Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Sanada.
Yoshi-Hashi came into the match with momentum, unwilling to feel intimidated even though he was competing against Tanahashi. It wasn’t always fluid, but Yoshi-Hashi battled Tanahashi for every inch — even managing to hit his recently develop Kumagoroshi technique.
Tanahashi has made a career of fighting back and finding ways to win matches that were getting away from him. Even though he is outside of his physical prime, Tanahashi remains able to chain together a devastating series of offense to put his opponents away.
This match was no different as Tanahashi would gain the fall at the 18 minutes and 41 seconds mark with his High Fly Flow technique and move his record to 2-2 in the G1 Climax 30 B Block. Yoshi-Hashi’s record fell to 1-3, but his effort was nothing to be ashamed of.
As the tournament continues Tanahashi will remain a major threat, he has proven throughout his career that he can defeat anyone on the planet when he’s at his top form. If his body can hold up, he may have another run for the IWGP Heavyweight Champion in him.
Yoshi-Hashi continues to wrestle with increased confidence, and he will likely pick up several more wins during the tournament. He’s proven that not only will he get back up during a fight, but that he’s learning how to finish off his opponents.
