The marquee match of the first Road to New Japan Showdown 2020 event features the Bullet Club team of six-time former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, two-thirds of three NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa).
Former NEVER Openweight Champion and New Japan Cup USA 2020 winner Kenta, and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Noge Dojo graduate “Young Gun” Hikuleo face former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion David Finlay (w/Juice Robinson as FinJuice), Misterioso, PJ Black, and junior heavyweight Alex Zayne.
Finlay is chasing an opportunity to face Kenta for the right to make the V3 challenge of the second reign of IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley. He could guarantee his position by gaining a fall over Kenta in the marquee.
NJPW Road To Showdown October 30 Preview
The headline match sees “Alpha Wolf” Karl Fredericks face junior heavyweight “All Heart” Blake Christian, in what should be another chance for Christian to show that he deserves a full-time place within New Japan of American (NJoA), and to tour with the main brand in Japan.
He is coming off a defeat to Danny Limelight during the Lion’s Break Crown 2020 tournament during the semi-final round.
Fredericks is coming off a victory over veteran junior heavyweight ACH during the NEVER tour finale. A win over Christian will continue his recent streak of good form and help propel his career as he eyes a return to Japan.
The opening match features the return of The Riegel Twins (Logan/Steven Riegel) to tag team action. Sterling returns to the ring after being in the United Kingdom over the past few months during the troubling COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) pandemic.
Logan has made a name for himself on New Japan Strong since the show made its debut on New Japan World. However, the return to tag team action could see the Riegel twins immediately establish themselves in the junior heavyweight tag division as credible contenders.
The Riegel Twins face NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo Young Lion and Lion’s Break Crown 2020 winner Clark Connors and The DKC.
The Road to Showdown tour will continue next week on New Japan Strong.
