The November 18, 2020 Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) event was in front of 696 (audience limited due to Coronavirus, 2019) fans at the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The crowd was as lively as allowed while the Junior Heavyweights battled in their second matches of the tournament.
The marquee series match of the night saw former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, BOSJ 25 winner, and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi take on Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado.
Hiromu was coming into the match off a victory to open his BOSJ 27 campaign, while El Desperado was coming off a surprise loss. Desperado needed to defeat Hiromu to keep pace with the top of the table if he wanted to remain relevant during the latter days of the series.
As typical when these two square off against one another the match was extremely physical with Desperado attempting to bully Hiromu, who was more than willing to engage in that type of match. While Desperado had his moments on top, he wasn’t completely able to knock Hiromu off his pace, which is a familiar story since Hiromu returned from his excursion in IWGP Conception partner Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
Hiromu was able to fight back, answering Desperado’s questions with those of his own. Yet, his Suzuki-Gun opponent didn’t step away from Hiromu’s equation. In fact, Desperado was able to gain the submission fall at the 23 minutes and 10 seconds mark with his Numero Dos technique.
The win gave Desperado his first two points of the tournament, while Hiromu dropped to 1-1. Desperado would go on to face fellow LIJ member Bushi on November 20th, while Desperado faced New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Noge Dojo Young Lion Yuya Uemura on the same night.
