The November 18, 2020 Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) event was in front of 696 (audience limited due to Coronavirus, 2019) fans at the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The crowd was as lively as allowed while the Junior Heavyweights battled in their second matches of the tournament.
The fourth series match of the night saw reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori face former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and BOSJ 19 winner “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi. Taguchi was coming off a win to begin his BOSJ 27 campaign, while Ishimori was coming off a defeat.
Ishimori needed a victory to keep pace with the top of the BOSJ 27 table, while a victory for Taguchi could set him up with a future title match and have him in a position to make a surprise run to the BOSJ 27 Finals. Despite his typical joking attitude, Taguchi brought forward a number of questions for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Ishimori and Taguchi would also go through a chain wrestling exchange with saw Ishimori use his Yes Lock Crossface technique while Taguchi used his Oh My & Garankle Toe Lock technique. The two would then enter a quick chain exchange leading to an unfortunate conclusion for Taguchi.
Ishimori would gain the fall at the 11 minutes and 33 seconds mark with tights assisted roll-up. The referee didn’t see the transgression, so Ishimori was able to pick up the crucial two points and move his record to 1-1 as he got off the mark. The loss moved Taguchi to 1-1 as he remained on two points.
Ishimori went on to face Suzuki-Gun member Douki on November 20th as Taguchi went on to face “Way to the Grandmaster” Master Wato on the same night.
