NJPW BOSJ 27: Douki Profile

Just How Much Has Douki Grown?

Suzuki-Gun member Douki enters his second Best of the Super Juniors tournament, after making his New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) debut during BOSJ 26. While only securing two points during last year’s campaign, Douki hopes Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) brings him better results.

Douki has grown exponentially since his May 13, 2019 NJPW debut. He recently had his best performance in an NJPW ring on October 23, 2020 during the Road to Power Struggle, when he challenged for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Championship. While a losing effort, his performance against Yoshi-Hashi showed his growth over the past 18 months.

Douki will be fortunate to get a positive result against one of the tournament favorites of reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori, former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi, “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles, and Sho. Yet, if he can defeat one his stock will rise within the junior heavyweight division.

Douki’s highlighted matches during the campaign see him face Master Wato (November 25th), El Desperado (November 29th), Bushi (December 5th), and “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi (December 6th).

The expectation for Douki during his BOSJ 27 campaign should be to show progress. He will need to grow to develop into a proper IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship contender, and BOSJ provides him with the best opportunity to find out exactly where he is currently.

If he can pick up three or four victories in the tournament, finishing between six to eight points, he will prove thatBOSJ 27 the past year has seen him reach far beyond what many expected from him.

Will the Suzuki-Gun member stay on the path, or were his recent showings shows of false promise?
