NJPW BOSJ 27 And WTL 2020: Bushi v Wato

Master Wato Looks To Make A Statement
Moments After The Beginning Of The December 2nd, 2020 Best Of The Super Juniors 27 Match Between Bushi And Master Wato via New Japan Pro Wrestling

On December 2nd, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) from the Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan in front of 1,220 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was present during key parts of the night.

The third series match of the event saw former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi take on “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato accompanied by his sensei former four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroyoshi Tenzan.

Bushi came into the match after dropping the fall to reigning two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori, while Wato suffered defeat on the same night to CHAOS member Sho.

Despite the loss to Sho, Wato had the opportunity to remain near the top of the BOSJ 27 table with a victory, while Bushi needed a victory to keep any hopes of a finals appearance alive. Wato was the beneficiary of advice from Tenzan throughout the tournament, but he also relied too much on Tenzan’s influence at times.

Bushi was able to capitalize on Wato’s inexperience during the match, eventually gaining the fall at the 13 minutes and 15 seconds mark with his MX technique. The victory moved Bushi to (4-3) [8 points] while Wato fell to (4-3) [8 points].

Bushi would go on to face Suzuki-Gun member Douki on December 5th, while Wato faced Taiji Ishimori on the same night.

The loss brings Wato back down to earth, while Bushi kept himself alive in the BOSJ 27 Finals hunt. Despite dropping the fall, Wato looks as if he is going to have an extremely successful singles career in front of him.
