On November 24th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the Big Palette Fukushima in Fukushima, Japan in front of 469 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) was responsible for the reduced crowd size, spreading the fans throughout, but the audience remained lively during key moments.
The headline series match of the event saw reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Suzuki-Gun members Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) wrestle the Empire team of Jeff Cobb/Great-O-Khan. Coming into the match Dangerous Tekkers dropped the fall to former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Champions and Bullet Club members Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) on November 22nd, while Cobb/O-Khan defeated former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and WTL 2019 winners FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay).
Not only was the contest a swing match, but it also allowed the Empire tandem to measure themselves against a reigning championship team that remains in form. Throughout the match, Cobb/O-Khan showed they have the potential to one-day challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, but they were unable to route the Suzuki-Gun team with their power approach.
Zack Sabre Jr and Taichi showed the chemistry they’ve developed over the past three years as they were able to wrestle their way back into the match. Zack Sabre Jr would gain the fall over O-Khan at the 14 minutes and 50 seconds mark after he and Taichi hit their dual Zack Mephisto technique.
The victory moved Dangerous Tekkers to (3-2) [6 points] while Empire dropped to (3-2) [6 points] as well. The big victory for the Suzuki-Gun pair means they have a clear path to the WTL 2020 Finals if they continue winning. They faced the Bullet Club tandem of Evil/Yujiro on November 28th, while Cobb/O-Khan faced former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and CHAOS members, Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano, on the same night.
