On November 24th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the Big Palette Fukushima in Fukushima, Japan in front of 469 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) was responsible for the reduced crowd size, spreading the fans throughout, but the audience remained lively during key moments.
The third series match of the event saw the former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Bullet Club members Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD] take on former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and CHAOS members “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano.
GOD came into the match with a victory over reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Suzuki-Gun members Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) on November 22nd, while Ishii/Yano dropped the fall to Bullet Club members Evil/Yujiro on the same night.
While GOD were the favorites, they struggled against the mind games of Yano during several points of the match. Despite that, GOD controlled the majority of the match against their CHAOS opponents.
Interference from GOD’s manager Jado backfired for the team giving Ishii/Yano hope during the latter stages of the contest. Yano would eventually gain the fall over Tanga Loa at the 12 minutes and 10 seconds mark with a Vertical Cradle.
The victory took the CHAOS team to (3-2) [6 points] while the loss to GOD to (3-2) [6 points]. The result makes GOD’s path to the WTL 2020 Finals far more difficult as they look for their first trophy victory in NJPW.
Ishii/Yano took on Empire members Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan on November 28th, while GOD took on CHAOS members and two-thirds of the reigning NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi.
The result leaves both teams needing to go on a run if either will qualify for the two WTL 2020 Finals slots.
